BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES

Born in 1904 René Zimmermann began his career as a painter at the age of 16. He studied etching and engraving techniques at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. Throughout his life, he was inspired by Paris' scenes, especially Montmartre and Provence. He developed a long friendship with other painters, Utrillo, Vlaminck, Maclet, Kisling, and writers, especially Giono, Carco and Dorgelès for whom he illustrated several books.
